Mary received a Bachelor of Art degree at the University of Chicago, and a Master of Fine Art degree at the University of Minnesota. She studied for two years at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and spent a year of independent study in film theory at Princeton University.
Her work can be seen in the Chicagoland area at ZIA Gallery in Winnetka, IL on Chicago's North Shore, and also in Western Michigan at Red Door Gallery in Ludington. Collections include: Honeywell, Pillsbury, University of Minnesota, Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, SAP, Whirlpool Corporation commission, and private collections.
Besides many galleries in the U.S, her work has been exhibited in Florence, Italy and in Columbia, South America. Paintings have been featured in Newsweek magazine's internet art gallery. Other publications where her work have been seen include The Chicago Art Scene, Suite Home Chicago, The American Art Collector, and The Artful Home.
Working with a variety of materials, she enjoys exploring various ways to interpret aspects of the natural world. Via abstraction, mingled with figurative elements, her work embraces the contrast between the organic and human-made elements that surround us. A balance between accident and intent are involved when paint is applied to a work.
Work on Paper: These works vary in size from 8"x10" to 30"x40". Most incorporate a variety of mediums such as watercolor, ink, acrylic, crayon, original photos, and pencil. Original photos may be printed on watercolor paper as a first layer, onto which other mediums are applied. Other photos can be printed on archival tissue paper and adhered to the surface with acyrlic gel medium. The monoprints have cut out monoprint elements set in relief on a monoprinted background.
More Paintings: This page gives the viewer a taste of some past works, each one representing a larger body of work that she was involved with at that time. Some of these are sold, while others, as well as some not shown on this site, are still available. If a sold work interests you, please inquire as to whether a work similar in feel may be available.
